Hello, I hope your week is going well and if not don't worry, it's almost Friday! Who else is guilty of not taking enough time out of their hectic lives to take a breather and give themselves a little headspace? I am totally guilty of this, so last Sunday, when we decided to head to the beach to get some fresh air, it got me thinking about the ways I like to relax and today I thought I'd share them with you!
Walking On The Beach
If you read my post last week, 'The Quarter Life Crisis', you'll know that lately I've been feeling pretty stressed (aren't we all), so now more than ever I really appreciate taking some time out to unwind. Walking on the beach is definitely my most favourite way to relax, there's something about the fresh air and the sound of the waves that help me to forget all of my worries. I'm lucky enough to live pretty close to Tramore in Waterford so popping out there on a Sunday is very easy, which I really appreciate because growing up in England, the closest beach to me was over an hour and a half away.
Cleaning
Another thing I do to get a little headspace is cleaning. Now, I thought that this was quite a weird way to relax until I was chatting about it on Snapchat (my username is 'penneystoprada', if you'd like to add me) and so many people messaged me saying they love to clean to help them relax too! I think it's the act of putting things back where they belong that also helps to declutter my mind when I'm stressed, but if I'm ever worried/stressed about something, I'll always end up cleaning my room because it calms me down.
Watching A Movie
Another one of my favourite ways to relax is by watching a movie, I really love films and I'd say I watch at least one a week. When I'm watching a movie, I try to put my phone away and completely switch off, although I'm sure my boyfriend might argue with that (sometimes I just have to check Instagram)! As well as movies, I love watching tv shows on Netflix and sometimes there's nothing better than curling up on the couch and watching five episodes in a row.
Having A Bath
I'm absolutely terrible at sitting still and not doing anything for longer than five minutes, so I really love things like movies and baths that force me to sit still and chill. I always go a bit overkill with baths, I'll light twenty candles and make it extra bubbly but I always feel extremely relaxed after a long bath so the extra effort is definitely worth it.
Reading A Book
Okay so these last few ideas are pretty cliché ways to relax, I know, but they totally work. I love spending a few hours curled up in bed with a blanket buried in a book. Just like watching a movie, it's the perfect way to jump into a completely different world and switch off from your own life, which is what I think they call 'escapism' and it's brilliant.
What are your favourite ways to relax and give yourself a little headspace? Let me know in the comments and I hope you enjoyed this post!
