People ask me all the time what I do to my hair to make it so 'shiny' or how did I get it this long, so I thought I'd do a post on it and share some tips!
This is the longest my hair has ever been, when I was younger I always had it shoulder length and when I was fifteen I actually cut it into a bob. As for colour, my hair has been red, black, dark drown, but the colour my hair is now (above) is my natural colour. It did lighten up a lot when I went to Spain last summer so I have a bit of a natural subtle ombré going on.
Now of course, everyone's hair is different and the length/thickness of everyone's hair varies but the list below is a few things I do to keep my hair healthy and long. These tips will help you keep your hair healthy and the healthier the hair, the longer it'll grow!
- Instead of using a normal brush when your hair is wet, try a wide toothed comb to avoid breakage.
- Try not to shampoo your hair everyday. I wash my hair every second day as washing it too much can cause it to become dry and brittle.
- When you're washing your hair, use cold water for the final rinse, it apparently closes the cuticle of the hair and my hair always seems shinier when I do this.
- Try a sulfate free shampoo, sulfates are used in shampoo to give the 'lather' but they also strip away the hair's natural oil.
- Keep the use of heat on your hair to a minimum. My hair is pretty straight naturally so most of the time I just lightly blow dry it and when I can I let it air dry.
- Get your hair trimmed regularly to keep the ends healthy.
- Rotate your shampoos, I find this helps to keep my hair shiny and bouncy.
- Use a heat protectant when using any kind of heat on your hair.
- Drink lots of water, it will make your hair stronger and hydrate it from the inside out.
- Take multivitamins, since I've started taking them my nails and hair have grown so much faster!
I hope some of these tips were helpful! Thanks so much for reading!
