If you read last week's post, The Death Of Fast Fashion then you'll know that recently I've been trying to focus a lot more on staple pieces for my wardrobe instead of throwaway fashion that I'll only wear once or twice. Since Spring is now in full swing (apologies for the rhyme), I thought a post on the Spring staples that you can recycle year after year would be helpful. I'm delighted to be working with Penneys on this post *, as you all know it's my favourite shop and they have some brilliant pieces in store at the moment.
Ripped/Distressed Denim
I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like a pair of blue, ripped denim jeans go so perfectly with all of the colours for Spring. This pair are very distressed and I love the washed effect on them too as it's very flattering. Pairing some ripped denim with an otherwise quite formal outfit like this one is a brilliant way of dressing it down and making it look quite effortless.
Printed Shirts
These are a wardrobe staple that will work all year round, but right now Penneys have so many gorgeous prints on their shirts and I have to hold myself back from buying them all! This shirt in particular has a pretty hummingbird print and it's quite a thin, comfy material so even as it gets hotter (here's hoping), I'll still be able to wear it without dying of the heat. The best thing about Penneys printed shirts is that they have loads of different cuts and prints, and they're all very inexpensive, this one was only €8!
Peep Toe Sandals
You know when you find a pair of shoes that you just absolute love, so you buy them in every colour possible?! This pair of sandals are that exact type of shoe for me. I picked up this beige pair last year and was delighted when I saw that Penneys had them in store again this year, so I know have them in black too! I think a pair of slightly heeled peep toe sandals like this add a little bit of sophistication to an outfit without compromising your comfort which is perfect for someone like me who mostly wears flat shoes.
Shirt - €8 / Ripped Jeans - €19 / Bag - €14 / Peep Toe Sandals - €19 / Sunglasses - €3
A Statement Bag
This is another wardrobe staple that will work all year round. Having a statement bag like this gorgeous chain detail one can transform an outfit and I love the bit of edginess this bag adds to the outfit. I've actually wanted this bag for a while, it flew off the shelves a few months ago so I was very happy when I spotted it in store the other day, and it definitely looks more expensive than just €14!
A Good Pair Of Black Jeans
I know you might be thinking "Black jeans aren't a Spring staple", but hear me out. So we all know that Spring is all about pastel, soft colours, right? Well I love adding some black, especially a pair of black skinny jeans, to add some contrast, because while I love pastels, sometimes it's all a bit too girly for me! The Ultra Soft Super Skinny jeans from Penneys are a brilliant fit, and really comfy for skinny jeans, plus they're only €13 so you can totally justify buying them in every colour.
Wrap Top - €9 / Jeans - €13 / Bag - €12 / Sling Back Ballet Pumps - €6
Florals
I hope as soon as you read that heading, the line 'Florals for Spring? Groundbreaking' instantly popped into your head! It's such a cliché I know, but it doesn't have to be the traditional super flowery floral prints. Take this gorgeous wrap top for example, there's a lot of leaves in there as well and I love the contrast between the white, black and pink.
Gladiator Sandals
These are another pair of shoes that I make sure to pick up every year from Penneys. Last year I had a tan pair, and got so much wear out of them, so when I saw this cornflower blue colour, they went straight in my basket! Gladiator sandals like this are perfect for Spring because you can wear them like this, with jeans, and when it gets warmer they'll go with shorts and dresses too, I'm all about versatility!
Bardot Top - €10 / Jeans - €11 / Sandals - €8 / Sunglasses - €8
Bardot Style Tops
This style of top is everywhere at the moment and I love that it shows off a little skin whilst still keeping you fairly covered up, because we all know how unpredictable the Irish weather is! I have quite broad shoulders, something I'm very conscious of, so the more structured, shirt-like off the shoulder tops make me look far too boxy, so when I saw this bardot top the other day, and saw that it was made out of a lighter material, it was perfect!
So there we have it, all the Spring staples that you can recycle year after year. I hope you enjoyed this post, thanks so much for reading!
