Hello! I'm back with another Amsterdam themed post since you all seemed to love the last one (which you can read here) and I'm still getting lots of messages asking for recommendations for places to go and eat, so today I'm going to share with you all some of the most amazing places we ate whilst on our trip (all of the credit for the name of this post goes to Dara, he loves a good pun)!
Pancakes Amsterdam
I am a serious pancake lover, and one of the main reasons I was so excited to visit Amsterdam was to try out Pancakes Amsterdam. Dara had already been to Amsterdam last year and he absolutely raved about this place and he wasn't wrong, they were definitely the best pancakes I've ever eaten.
We went to the Centraal restaurant which is just a two minute walk from Centraal Station and Dam Square and I ordered the American pancakes with bacon and maple syrup and freshly squeezed orange juice and an amazing cup of coffee was included with it too, which I was very impressed with as it only cost €12.50! If you have an iAmsterdam card (which I really recommend), you actually get a 25% discount on Pancakes Amsterdam's breakfast menu until 1pm, which is even more of a bargain!
NEMO Science Museum - DAK Restaurant
We actually discovered this place by accident whilst visiting the NEMO Science Museum as it's on the top floor and we wanted to check out their amazing roof terrace. The DAK restaurant was designed by the renowned architect Renzo Piano and offers really fresh and delicious food. You can visit the restaurant and the roof of the NEMO Science Museum even if you don't have tickets to the museum itself and it's a must see for some amazing views over the city!
Rene's Croissanterie
If you're a chocoholic/sugar addict like myself, then a visit to Rene's Croissanterie is a must! They have the most amazing crepes and churros with melted Nutella and when we went there on night whilst we were wandering around the streets near Dam Square, it was absoultely packed, but definitely worth the wait!
Sticky Fingers
I'm going to hold my hands up and say that the main reason I wanted to visit Sticky Fingers was because I saw it on Instagram and it looked like heaven! From the pink tiles to the cool menu, I knew I'd get some amazing shots, and when we went there, we found out they also do amazing coffee and yummy muffins. It's right next to Vondelpark so it's perfect if you're in the area and need a little pit stop.
Bakers & Roasters
Last but certainly not least is Bakers & Roasters, this place was so good that I'm still dreaming about it! I had the Banana Nut Bread French Toast and it was out of this world. It was basically french toast made from banana bread with crispy bacon and the most amazing banana marmalade, in other words, insanely yummy!
Bakers & Roasters have quite a big menu and you can get big full breakfasts, for example Dara had the B&R Special which included eggs, toast, bacon and a mini stack of pancakes or like me, you can get something super sweet and sugary like the french toast or American style pancakes. They also have a brilliant cocktail menu, I got the Strawberry Collins and if it wasn't the middle of the day, I'd have had a lot more than just one!
Honourable Mentions
As I mentioned before, the iAmsterdam card offers discounts in some of the eateries around Amsterdam and one of them is Wagamama. Now I know when you travel to new places, you should try new restaurants, but sometimes you just can't beat a yummy Katsu curry (which actually comes with two breasts of chicken instead of the usual one you get back home) and with the iAmsterdam card you can get a 25% discount!
We also made use of the Albert Hein supermarket around the corner from our YAYs apartment (which you can read all about here) and made good old fashioned ham and cheese rolls one evening. Another supermarket that I really loved was called Marqt because they had a do-it-yourself freshly squeezed orange juice machine that I became slightly addicted to during our time in Amsterdam!
Have you tried any of the places mentioned above? I hope you enjoyed this post and as always, thanks a million for reading!
